Professional Project Blog Post

The scope of this package is to inform the public that protesters remain on Standing Rock even through freezing temperatures and blizzard conditions. This package is entitled, "Protesters Endure Blizzard to Remain At Standing Rock." The package was produced by NBC News. This package included a variety of shots all falling under the 6 shot system. They also utilized crucial nat noise throughout the video to show just how windy the location was. The package included three different interviews all with a lower thirds including the subjects name and a brief description.

The story told was that passionate protesters were willing to endure hazardous weather conditions just to make their point. The story was told through the interviews of the people. There were no voice overs, instead there were captions on screen throughout the video. An element from this video that I would apply to my own work is the multiple interviews used. I try my best to get at least two interviews but three would be a good goal for me. An element that I have already learned that was applied in the project is the lower thirds technique. In class we use lower thirds with the subjects name and description in all our packages.

The creator did well with getting good sound bytes from the people he interviewed and by getting relevant nat noise that helped with the effect of the blizzard. The creator could have improved by recording actual voice overs instead of just captioning over the shots. In conclusion I think the package was well made and had some good elements but could improve. Props to the person filming who was in the blizzard with the protestors.
