Don't stop building LEGOS until your fingers BLEED
For this project I followed Olivia Contractor and her experience at the Olathe Northwest blood drive. I filmed and edited this video. I explored audio in this piece by picking up sound bites from interviews and nat noise. I also recorded voice overs to put in this project. J and L edits were a new thing we were introduced to during this assignment and I tried to utilize them in the editing project. My team for this production wasKit Walters and Wyatt Fowler. We assisted each other in the filming of this video. As a class we learned a bit about audio and J and L editsbefore we started the project. The day of the Blood Drive were sort of just thrown in and then from there we were told to follow one person and basically the rest was up to us. This turned into a journalism piece for me which I created in the same light as a news segment. During this project I learned that when filming a video you will be using audio heavily you need to make sure you pick up good sound bites and many of them, this way you have a range of audio to choose from. I also learned that as an interviewer you need to ask thourough and thought provoking questions where you will get a good response. Next time I would like to take a better variety of shots so I have a more interesting video. I liked how I got generally good responses from my subjects so I wouldn't change that. Overall I really enjoyed this project and just any journalism project in general. I would like to do more of these and get better!
In this project I filmed Saif and Bryce Lundgren as they build a Star Wars ship out of legos. I interviewed them during the process and the goal was to pick up sound bites from the interview questions and from natural noise, much like the blood drive assignment. However I didn't create this video as a journalism piece it was more so just a question and answer interview. I also recorded voice overs that I used in this video. Before filming we learned about editing with J and L edits and also how to use the cameras to receive audio. My team for this video was Saif and Bryce. We each had to build the ship and also film. During this I learned it's important to hold the camera as steady as possible to get good shots. I also learned to ask meaningful questions as the interviewer so that you get a good response, much like in the blood drive video. Next time I would ask better questions and take better shots. I liked my CU shots so I would keep those in a future video. Overall I didn't like this project as much as the blood drive one and I didn't really understand the project as well.
